Takara™ Reclaimed Teak Root Mortar & Pestle

From Abandoned Teak Forest to Your Kitchen Counter

The Takara™ Teak Mortar & Pestle carries a story worth telling. In a village in central Java, artisans dig up the enormous roots left behind in abandoned teak forests — roots that would otherwise burn or slowly rot — and work them into functional objects of genuine beauty. Each mortar and pestle is carved from a single piece of reclaimed teak root, which means every one is uniquely shaped by decades of underground growth, with its own grain, texture, and character.

A Working Kitchen Tool That Earns Its Place on the Counter

At 4.7" diameter and 4" tall, it’s substantial enough to grind spices, herbs, and pastes with real control, and dense enough in teak to hold its own against hard ingredients. Beautiful enough to leave out between uses — a functional object that doubles as a counter accent. A genuinely distinctive gift for anyone who cooks seriously or appreciates objects with an honest provenance.
