Ficus 'Audrey' Variegated Rubber Plant
The Ficus 'Audrey', scientifically known as Ficus elastica, is a hardy evergreen houseplant native to the tropical regions of India and Malaysia. This variegated rubber tree brings vibrant, striking foliage to any indoor space, making it a popular choice for plant enthusiasts seeking a statement piece.
Distinctive Variegated Foliage
Unlike the 'Burgundy' variety of rubber plants, the Ficus 'Audrey' features beautiful variegation that sets it apart from standard rubber trees. The variegated pattern creates visual interest with contrasting colors across each leaf, adding dimension and character to your plant collection. This variegated pattern requires specific lighting conditions to maintain its stunning appearance and healthy growth.
Light Requirements
This variegated rubber plant thrives in bright indirect light and will not perform well in low light environments. The variegation demands more light than non-variegated varieties to maintain its vibrant patterns. Position your Ficus 'Audrey' near a window with filtered sunlight or in a well-lit room where it receives consistent bright, indirect light throughout the day.
Watering and Soil Care
Keep the soil consistently moist for optimal growth. The Ficus elastica 'Audrey' prefers evenly moist soil but avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root issues. Water when the top inch of soil begins to dry, adjusting frequency based on your home's humidity and temperature conditions.
Hardy and Resilient Nature
As a hardy tropical plant, the Ficus 'Audrey' adapts well to indoor environments when provided with proper care. This resilient houseplant can tolerate minor fluctuations in care routine, making it suitable for those with some plant care experience.
Important Safety Information
Ficus elastica is a natural source of latex, which is toxic to skin and poisonous if ingested. Pet owners should exercise caution as this plant can be harmful to cats and dogs if consumed. Individuals with latex allergies should also be cautious when handling this plant, as the sap can cause allergic reactions.
