Tillandsia Tectorum Ecuador Air Plant
Tillandsia Tectorum from Ecuador stands out as one of the most distinctive air plants available. Its dense covering of trichomes creates a bright white, almost fuzzy appearance that makes it instantly recognizable. This sought-after species produces a purple inflorescence spike with delicate lavender blooms when it flowers.
Care Requirements
Unlike most air plants, Tillandsia Tectorum thrives in drier conditions. In arid climates, provide a light daily misting if morning dew is insufficient or humidity levels are low. The key is allowing the plant to dry quickly after watering - a light to medium mist is all it needs. This species does not tolerate high heat combined with heavy humidity, as it requires proper drying time between waterings. When kept outdoors in humid environments, ensure excellent air circulation to prevent moisture retention.
Available Sizes
Choose from four size options to fit your space and display preferences. Small plants measure approximately 2.5 inches wide by 1.5-2 inches tall. Large specimens reach about 4 inches wide by 2-2.5 inches tall. Extra Large plants grow to roughly 6 inches tall by 2.5-3 inches wide. Jumbo sizes are the most dramatic, ranging from 8-12 inches tall by 4.5-5 inches wide.
Display and Environment
The bright white trichomes make Tillandsia Tectorum an excellent choice for modern displays, terrariums, or mounted arrangements. Its drought-tolerant nature suits it perfectly for drier indoor environments where other air plants might struggle. The striking appearance and relatively easy care requirements make it popular among both beginning and experienced air plant collectors.
Product Specifications
- Dimensions:
- Small: ~2.5"W x 1.5-2"H
- Large: ~4"W x 2-2.5"H
- Extra Large: ~6"H x 2.5-3"H
- Jumbo: ~8-12"H x 4.5-5"H
- Tillandsia Tectorum likes to be misted lightly daily in a drier climate if there isn't sufficient dew in the morning or a mid-level of humidity. It needs to dry rather quickly so a light to medium mist is sufficient. It does not do well in high heat with heavy humidity since it needs to dry sufficiently. Make sure it gets lots of air circulation if outdoors in humid conditions.
